Celebrating the 200th anniversary of Kittur Rani Chennamma’s historic victory over the British East India Company, the Department of Post decided to release a new postal stamp related to this rare occasion since Rani Chennamma, the warrior Queen of Kittur, singularly fought against the EIC's attempt to take over her small kingdom using the Doctrine of Lapse  (authored by Lord Dalhousie, British administrator) as an excuse. In the 1824 war, she, with valor headed  her small army assisted by her close associates against the formidable EIC army consisting of 20000 army men with powerful cannons and other firearms.
