Historical Raj Bhavan of Uttarakhand, Dehradun

Raj Bhavan is widely used as the  official  residence of the state governor  and he is the link between the central government in power at De;hi nd the ruling part in the state. In many states what was once the residences of the British Residents across India were converted into Raj Bhavan.

The Raj Bhavan or Governor's House, Dehradun is the official residence of the governor of Uttarakhand. Among the Indian states, Uttarakhand state  is one among the few to have   two official buildings of Raj Bhavans - te first one in Dehradun, the capital city and the other in  Nainital.

The present Raj Bhavan of Dehradun was  Built in 1902 during the Raj in Dehradun  it was known as "Court House" and in the same place the the then Governor of United Provinces often used to reside.

After the creation of   the  new State of Uttarakhand from Uttar Pradesh in Dehradun on the new cantonment road the Bijapur House was temporarily converted into  Raj Bhavan. It was in December 2000 the governor shifted to the Circuit House of Dehradun upon certain modifications were done to the old building.  The Governor’s Secretariat continued to function from Bijapur House premises till 27 July 2009,  A separate Governor’s Official Residence came up on  this premises and was it inaugurated by Smt. Margaret Alva (the fourth Governor of Uttarakhand) on 14 April, 2010. The Old building, previously known as Circuit House, is now being used as Raj Bhawan Guest House.

 This place located in a picturesque area in the midst  of  well-kept sprawling  lawn is a historical place and many PMs and Presidents  visited this building  for comfortable stay while on official duty.   The sprawling lawns, The building has a separate auditorium which still serves as the venue for official ceremonies like oath-taking, book release, seminar, cultural programs, etc.
