Narasimhaswamy Temple Of Namakkal, Tamil Nadu - A fascinating 6th CE Hindu temple

Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture and Rock-cut architecture, the Narasimhaswamy temple in Namakkal town on the Salem–Namakkal–Trichy Road is a popular one. Dedicated to Narasimha, an avatar of Hindu god Vishnu appearing for Lakshmi, his consort, and Hanuman. On the basis of the rock cut architecture and stone inscriptions, historians believe that the temple was built during the 6th century by the Adiyamans or Satyaputras.

About the question of why Tamil Vaisgnava saints Azhwars did not include this temple in the 108 Divyadesam shines,  some historians argue the Azhwars in pursuit of Bhakti tradition avoided rock-cut temples, hence there is no mention about the temple in their work- Nalaeera Dhivya Prabhandam, often referred to as Tamil Vadas.

But some historians don't accept this postulation and deny this by mentioning  rock-cut temples like Thirumeyyam in Pudukottai district and Ninra Narayana Perumal temple in Virudhunagar district finding mention in the canon. Because of inadequate stone inscriptions in the temple, the exact date of this temple is subject to debate. However, the general consensus has been that the temple is said to have been built during the 6th century CE by the Pandya or Satyaputra kings in rock-cut architecture.
