Hislop College, Nagpur of Maharashtra: Founded by missionary and geologist Stephen Hislop had a humble beginning

 A young Scottish missionary Stephan Hislop with his mind fixed on  humanitarian activities in tune with Cristian spirits   chose his final destination - India  . His active mind is  engrained with the  spirits of service to common people treading the path of Christ"   '' service to people is service to God'. Stephen Hislop (1817–1863),  a well-known  evangelist and educationist hag a degree in  geology green mineral known as Hislopite is named after him. In the midst of missionary's work and editorial work ont the Encyclopedic Dictionary.   along with one Robert Hunter, He studied the geology of the Nagpur region, part of the rich Deccan region, rich in variety of rocks and coal deposits. He had spent around 18 years carrying out missionary work in this part.

Hislop College, Nagpur, established in 1883 by Stephen Hislop during the British Raj, evolved from a modest boy's school started in 1846 at Shukrawara, old Nagpur. . This pioneering institution was the first to provide higher education in the Vidarbha region. Run by the Hislop Education Society under the Church of North India Synod, the college celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2009.   

Hislop College offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses across Arts, Science, and Commerce, including fields like Biotechnology, Computer Science, and Business Administration. It boasts 21 departments, 12 postgraduate programs, and 9 research centers recognized by Rastrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University. A strong emphasis on research is evident, with 9 postgraduate departments designated as research centers and 28 faculty members serving as Ph.D. supervisors.
