Karnataka CM Sri Siddaramaiah and  Deputy Chief Minister Sri DK Shivakumar  planned  to honor Nadaprabhu Kempegowda by celebrating  his 516th birth anniversary on Friday (June 27, 2025)on a grand scale.

Matching his lasting  contribution and legacy of the founder of Bengaluru, CM Sri Siddaramaiah will  inaugurate  the construction  of Kembagowda  Bhavan in Bengaluru. Being a visionary, an able administrator and ruler, late Kembagowda was instrumental  in introducing growing city's  infrastructure development, including the construction of reservoirs, temples, and forts. He had the  Temples of Vinayaka and Anjaneya built at the Northern Yelahanka Gate of the fort (near the present head office of State Bank of Mysore).

Various events were organized by the state government to commemorate his memory and  they  include morning  procession at 7 am with lamps  held from the city’s four directions — Lalbagh, Mehkri Circle, Kempambudhi Lake and Ulsoor.  A similar program is also planned at historical sites in Magadi  Devanahalli, and Kunigal.  C M Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, along with other guests, will receive the lamps at Summanahalli Circle on the Outer Ring Road, where the newly proposed  Kempegowda Bhavan will be constructed. Other ministers and MLAs will participate in this procession.

Part of the Jayanthi will include  floral tributes to the statues at three different locations - Kempegowda International Airport, BBMP head office, and Vidhana Soudha.  At 11 am, the Chief Minister will lay the foundation stone for the Kempegowda Bhavan. The evening is set for an  award ceremony and cultural programs and the venue is the BBMP head office. There will be cultural activities, etc across different districts.

Last year  celebration  included the unveiling of a 30-foot statue of Kempegowda, highlighting his lasting impact on the region.Futher a proposal  was  made  to develop Kempegowda’s birthplace in Devanahalli and other significant sites linked to his legacy. 

It was in April, 2017 official  announcement  was made  of  celebrating the Vokkaliga war hero and founder  of Bengaluru  Nadaprabhu Kempeafter Gowda after  Basava, Valmiki and Tipu, thus fulfilling  the demand of the entire community of  Vokkaliga.
