Naldehra Golf Course: A Legacy of the British Era
Nestled in the serene hills of Himachal Pradesh, the Naldehra Golf Course stands as a testament to the colonial legacy and natural beauty of the region. Established by Lord Curzon, the then Viceroy of India, in the early 1900s, the golf course is one of the oldest and most picturesque in the country. Its foundation was laid during the British Raj when Lord Curzon was captivated by the undulating landscapes and tranquil ambiance of Naldehra, a quaint hamlet situated about 22 kilometers from Shimla. So enamored was he by its charm that he named his daughter "Naldehra" after the site.
The Naldehra Golf Course, originally a nine-hole course, was meticulously designed to blend with the surrounding pine and deodar forests, offering both a challenging game and breathtaking views of the majestic Himalayan ranges. At an elevation of 2,200 meters (7,200 feet), it was among the highest golf courses in the world at the time of its establishment, reflecting the British penchant for building leisure retreats in the hills.
