Marble Palace, a palatial nineteenth-century mansion made of pure  Italian marble in North Kolkata - located at 46, Muktaram Babu Street, Kolkata -  was built in 1835 by Raja Rajendra Mullick, a wealthy Bengali merchant who had an insatiable  passion for collecting works of art and antiques..

The house, basically Neoclassical in style, is a three-story building with fluted Corinthian pillars and ornamented verandas and sloping roofs, built in the style of a Chinese pavilion.

The place is replete with rare collection of antiques of immense artistic and historical value, original oil paintings, art objects from Europe, and collections made of porcelain from Japan and China, fine curios, etc. Additional attractions are  paintings of Reynolds, Rembrandt, Van Gogh

and Rubens, large quantities of western sculpture and Victorian furniture, paintings by European and Indian artists, large chandeliers, clocks, Victoriana, Belgian glassware, floor to ceiling mirrors, urns, and busts of kings and queens,etc There is a small zoo of herbivorous animals and birds inside the palace.

The ballroom houses a vast array of candle chandeliers with globes of silvered glass to spread illumination. The vast private collections as mentioned, give this marble mansion an aura of 19th century luxury and affluence.
