The District Collectorate Building is one of the major attractions of Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh . This building is located in the eastern part of Khandwa and was constructed in the year 1919 and to this day, the building has not lost its architectural splendor. The District Collectorate Building was initially built in an area of 15000 sq m and over a period of time, several additional buildings came up to meet additional work space and offices. The building houses the office of the Khandwa’s Collector and the office of the District Magistrate too right from the early days. Set in a nice ambiance with greenery and lots of trees it is the lifeblood of the district administration catering to serve the people. The District Collectorate is situated in civil lines, Khandwa and away from common residential area. Most of the collectorate buildings and collectors' residences in the colonial periods were built away from the residences. So were the residences of judges and magistrates. The aim was to avoid public access to the officers to influence them. Further, in case of revolt or or unrest by the public the collector could function safely away from the eyes of the public.
Many offices like District and sessions court, Office of the Conservator of Forest, Office of Supdt. of Police, Zila Panchayat, Janpad Panchayat, Subdivision Office, Tehsil Office, Agriculture, Veterinary, Rural Engineering Services, PHE, akashwani etc are located in the nearby places.
District Collector performs widely varied roles as and when required. He is Administrative Head and Magistrate of the District, He establishes coordination between departments, he takes care of various tasks of government as and when assigned and is answerable to the ruling power at the state level.
Khandwa city is governed by Municipal Corporation and is situated in Madhya Pradesh State.
